The Irresponsible Student’s Guide to Making CashMoney
I was an irresponsible student. But I passed. And now I make money writing blogs that no-one reads and self publishing my Star Trek fan fiction. You can have my life too if you work for it and follow my advice. During my time at college I ran out of money a lot and I ended up getting pretty creative in finding ways to pay my dealer back pay my phone bill.
Get a Part-Time Job
This is the most obvious one. You will want to maintain a certain level of competency to keep the job and there are many companies looking for part time student employees.
Work for the University
Many universities have schemes where they employ their own students for temporary or permanent jobs around campus. Some of them can be quite sweet like showing around prospective students or shushing people as a library monitor. Permanent roles could include working in the university grounds or shops.
Extend your Overdraft
Not the most forward thinking plan in the world but a good sob story and eye-lash flutter will get you a decent amount of money and fast.
Sell your Stuff
There is loads of stuff you can sell. If you are a hot girl you are lucky enough to have two wobbly cash cows under your top. Just buy a webcam and away you go. If you are a boy you may have to be more creative. Perhaps you could start your own ‘college porn’ site and effectively pimp your fellow students online. Everybody wins!
Emergency Loans from you College
A lot of colleges have emergency loans to help students cope with unforeseen expenses. You may have to prove your penniless situation with bank statements but you can get money pretty quickly this way.
College Hardship Fund
As above but this is free money you don’t have to pay back. This is for students with unexpected payments and parents who can’t afford to help. There may be a more rigorous process here involving interviews. Some colleges allocate funds and issue grants for extenuating circumstances.
Medical Trials
If your college has a strong science faculty there should be lots of opportunities to trial medicine or participate in experiments. They don’t all have to involve deadly chemicals and hospital stays; it could be as simple as forgetting to take a probiotic pill everyday and making up your results.
Sell Drugs
Students like to party. By becoming a drug dealer you make money and get invited to all the cool parties. Warning: can result in loss of degree, freedom and/or life.
