Scholarships catering to single mothers are fairly prevalent, but they’re usually awarded at the state and/or university level. This makes finding one tailored to your personal situation difficult. Alas, these types of scholarships do exist. I’ll give you a few examples before sharing the best resource for finding others.
Gump and Ayers Scholarship
This scholarship was created in the memory of Marjorie B Gump, a thrice married woman who raised her son Victor largely on her own. The scholarship is managed and disbursed by the P.E.O. foundation.
Single mothers whom live and plan to go to school in Utah are eligible. Other requirements must also be met, including the submission of two letters of recommendation and a demonstration of financial need.
Scholarship amount varies depending on financial need.
Emporia State University Single Parents with Children Scholarship
Emporia State U. created this scholarship to help single, divorced and widowed mothers get an education.
Eligible for single mothers who have custody of their children, and demonstrate financial need as determined by the submission of the FAFSA form. Applicants must also be enrolled to attend Emporia State University for at least 12 credit hours.
The scholarship maximum is $2,000 per academic year. Half of the funds are released for the fall semester and the balance is released for the spring semester.
